Alta Ward Westover, obituary

BELFAST — Alta Ward Westover, 74, of Belfast passed away peacefully at Waldo County General Hospital with her family by her side on Monday May 13, 2019.

Alta was born on March 20, 1945 in Belfast, the daughter of John “Eddie” Ward and Grace Thomas Ward Knight.

She was predeceased by both parents and her step father Ralph Knight and three other siblings Louise Tortora, Beverly Walsh, and Robert Ward.

She is survived by her sister Laurie Ward of Belmont, her son Wendall Ward and wife Beth of Morrill, granddaughter Leah Ward of Belmont, grandson Cote Ward and wife Sarah and their daughter Ava Ward of Belmont; her son Jamie Westover and wife Holly of Montville, grandson Levi Westover and his son Nathaniel Westover of Montville, and grandson Michael Baker of Montville; as well as many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alta attended Crosby High School and graduated in 1963. While in high school and after, she worked in the Rexall Drug Store in Belfast, and she drove for one of the local taxi services.

Alta worked most of her adult life in the healthcare field caring for others working at the Belfast hospital and Bradbury Nursing home for many years. She worked as a cook for the Waldo County Jail as well.

One of Alta’s fondest times was caring for Nanny Hayes, the mother of her dear friend Priscilla Withee.

Alta was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge where she was a district deputy president in 1991-1992 and the district deputy Grand Marshall in 2002-2003. Alta was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served in many capacities and enjoyed her church family. 

Alta's family would like to thank DCI Dialysis Unit in Belfast and their staff for the wonderful care she received there.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Dialysis Clinic- DCI. 

A time for visiting and sharing memories will be held Sunday May 19, from 2 to 3 p.m., with a memorial service at 3 p.m., at Riposta Funeral Home 182 Waldo Ave. Belfast, ME.
