I’m proud to be a member of the League of Women Voters, an organization that has worked steadily for nearly 100 years to expand voter access, modernize our voting systems and streamline the voting process.

The League began as a “mighty political experiment” in 1920, during the convention of the National American Woman Suffrage Association. The convention took place just six months before the 19th amendment was passed, giving women the right to vote after 72-years of hard work and struggle.

Today is National Voter Registration Day 2018 and our local chapter of the League of Women Voters will host an event at Camden Public Library from 11 am to 1 pm. Today’s effort is part of a huge nationwide, 50-state push to register thousands of voters in time for the November 6 election. Will Miss Amy be dressed in red, white and blue? You’ll have to show up to find out.

Our democracy works best when we all get involved. Key to that involvement is a fundamental American right: voting. Make sure you register so that you can exercise your sacred right in November.
