The formal "census" Spring 2019 enrollment data reported from the UMA Rockland Center (URock) on February 15 shows an increase in college credit hours of 5% at the Rockland Center over the same time last year.  URock also experienced an 82% increase in newly admitted students compared to the Spring 2018 term.

"We definitely saw a jump in new degree candidates this term," noted UMA Rockland's Director, Deborah Meehan.  That's exciting because it shows a commitment to completing a full certificate or degree program, rather a path of just taking courses," Meehan added. Credentials of value really boost an individual's labor market value and can lead to high quality employment.

URock also has 40 local high students enrolled this spring who are participating in dual enrollment programming.  This means they are taking college courses which count for both high school and college credit.

Meehan noted this is an excellent way for high school juniors and seniors to earn college credit tuition free through a program known as High School Aspirations. Any junior or senior in Maine is eligible.  URock staff work closely with area guidance counselors to be sure students make wise choices and have the skills and support to be successful.

UMA Rockland has served the mid-coast area for more than 30 years, providing access to more than 30 university degree and certificate programs with small class sizes, personalized support services, tutoring in math and writing, and local scholarships.  Students may choose from over 40 university courses offered each fall and spring semester, morning, afternoon and evening in a face-to-face format. In addition, more than 500 courses are offered through distance education technologies.
