The Study Hall is currently enrolling students in math and reading tutoring programs. Summer time is the perfect time to brush up on skills and to avoid the summer slide. Typically, students come in for an hour long session once or twice a week depending on need. Our certified tutors design programs specific to each child, building it around his or her strengths and weaknesses.

We have 12 wonderful tutors on our staff in Rockport who can tackle most subject areas. Tutors like Kathy Cook who joined our team in the fall of 2017. She earned her M. Ed. in Elementary Education from UMass Boston.  Since that time, she has worked with children of all ages and learning styles to improve their reading, writing, and math skills.   She has extensive experience with elementary and middle school children with learning challenges, making accommodations and designing and implementing IEPs.

Kathy is a literacy specialist, trained in several reading programs including Orton-Gillingham, LiPS, and Project Read.   She stresses the importance of keeping the material interesting and actively engaging the student at all times.  Kathy thinks the keys to success in the academic world are having a firm foundation in the basics and the confidence in yourself that you can do more.  She is looking forward to helping students accomplish both those goals through tutoring while having fun too!

We also have math teacher, Katey Smith, who joined our staff in 2018. Katey has spent a majority of her life working with kids, from Sunday School to tutoring to classroom teaching. She graduated from Thomas College with a BS in Elementary Education at the top of her class in 2016. From there, she taught 6th grade at Union Elementary School for two years, before moving onto Benton Elementary School, where she had done her student teaching and internship.

While she loves teaching her own class, she understands that a majority of students learn best one-on-one. Katey understands that it is difficult to achieve that one-on-one teaching style in the classroom setting, and recognizes that tutoring provides the opportunity to solidify the skills introduced in the classroom.

One to two hours of tutoring a week during the summer months can make a world of difference in the fall when kids transition back to school! Call The Study Hall today at 236-3949 to enroll your son or daughter or email Rockport@thestudyhall.com for more information.
