Leftover Pumpkin?

Halloween is a fun and festive holiday but also quite trashy.  Please make sure you collect all your outside decorations.  Left outside not only do they look sad and forlorn  but  anything made of plastic starts to break up into tiny pieces.  We might not notice but small creatures think the bright colored bits are tasty morsels.  Pack everything away to use next year.  You’ll save money and less will end up in the landfills.

Natural materials make the best decorations and pumpkins rule for Halloween.  I image most of us don’t want to use our Jack o’ Lantern as food but if you decorated with the small “sugar” pumpkins try making pumpkin pie, bread or cookies.  One thing you have to do is let the pumpkin drain after cooking- pumpkins are full of water.  Another trick is to substitute dark rum for vanilla- adds a nice kick.  Lots of critters will eat pumpkin including birds and my backyard chickens.  The real reason natural materials make the best decorations is compost.  Let you pumpkins rot happily.
