Good Ol’ Maine”Dinnah” at John Street UMC in Camden July 7

Event has passed

After the festivities of the Fourth of July wind down, friends and families are invited to the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, to let others prepare an “all you can eat” meal for them.  The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children under age 13.  After a few jokes and a blessing of the meal, folks check their tickets to see if they have the lucky number for a free meal at a future supper.

After buying tickets, supper-goers choose their seats at long serving tables, but along the way they select a slice of the wide assortment of pies, including such favorites as blueberry, rhubarb, lemon, chocolate, pecan, pudding or mince pies.  No one is shy about eating their pie immediately.

Then at 5:30 the servers begin delivering the main course, starting with beans and ham.  Next come the leafy, crunchy, potato, fruit and jelled salads to accompany the homemade hot casseroles, clam and corn being among the most popular, along with scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, American chop suey, chicken and rice as well as sliced hotdogs in spicy sauce.

Come; bring a friend, a neighbor or the whole family.  Seating is limited, so plan to arrive early.  For those who wish to reserve space, they may come early and purchase tickets for the entire group.  One table is set aside for those who have reservations.

A Portion of the proceeds of each monthly supper benefits the Camden Area Christian Food Pantry.
