BELFAST: Belfast voters will be voting to fill three City Council seats, with only one of the races a contested one. Mary Mortier (Ward 1) and Neal Harkness (Ward 2), whose terms expire in November, are seeking re-election. Vying for the two-year term seat in Ward 5 are incumbent John Arrison and his challenger, Christopher Dyer. There is also a race for a seat on the RSU 17 School Board, with Caitlin Hills and Charles Grey vying to fill the three-year term seat. Susan Bailey is running unopposed to serve as Election Warden for Wards 3 and 4. Voters will also be deciding whether to authorize the school board to issue bonds or notes up to $7,600,000 to construct and equip additions and renovations to Belfast Area High School. Visit the city's website for sample ballots and voting locations.

ROCKLAND: Rockland is holding a public information meeting Oct. 25 to outline the current condition of the city’s aging sewer system and wastewater treatment facility and introduce a proposed plan to make necessary improvements that will not result in an increase to sewer fees and property taxes. City and engineering staff will be available to answer questions from community members.  All residents are encouraged to attend the Oct. 25 in preparation for a vote on the November ballot that includes approval to borrow $10.4M for sewer improvements. Visit the city’s website to view the presentation and submit questions regarding the proposed improvements.

ROCKPORT: Rockport has four municipal proposals that citizens will consider when they go to the polls Nov. 8, including borrowing $2 million to help build a new $4 million library; approving a road acceptance ordinance amendment so that Hawthorne Drive will convert from private to public purview; eliminating what some say is an outdated and cumbersome sidewalk ordinance; and signing a contract with the Southern Maine-based ecomaine for disposal of solid waste.  Click here to read more.
