Blizzard, Feb. 13, 2017. It’s a doozy!

It has been a good old-fashioned blizzard on the Midcoast, with stinging snow and drifts piling up by doors and in the roadways. The kind of snowstorm that piles up so quickly, it hides all evidence of your shoveling efforts. The northeast wind is cruel, and has been barreling down all day, 40 to 50 mph, with even high gusts, relentlessly. All day and into the night.

Outside it’s neither fit for man nor beast, and most have realized that the minute stepping out the back door. The dogs and cats know better; they are holding firm by the woodstoves.

But the plow guys are hard at it. In Rockport, public works has been going since 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. They take naps back at the garage, and nice people, like Helen Shaw, bring them lunch. But they they go right back out to clear the roads for the public.

The Maine Department of Transportation hauled their plows off the highways for a bit this afternoon, which meant the locals picked up even more of a load.

In some locations, trees fell across wires, or took them down altogether. But for the most part, the lines have held and electricity has not gone out (cross your fingers) for many.

Here are photos from adventures in the storm. We will keep adding photos as they arrive. Enjoy!
