Rockland and Camden Shops Support UMC with Days of Giving

ROCKLAND AND CAMDEN, Maine, -- November 17, 2017 – The holiday spirit is thriving in Rockland and the Camden area, where businesses in each town have set aside a Saturday in December to contribute to United Midcoast Charities (UMC) in support of the work of local nonprofit organizations.

Rockland will host a Day of Giving on December 2, and the Camden area will follow suit on December 9. Participating shops have committed to generously donate a portion of their sales to UMC, and all proceeds will be applied toward UMC’s grants – which help food pantries, health clinics, nursing services, homeless shelters and other providers of vital services in Knox and Waldo counties. The Day of Giving events are made possible through sponsorship from Horch Roofing with media sponsored by Courier Publications.

“We are deeply grateful to the business owners participating in the Days of Giving and to the people who make a point of shopping in support of UMC,” said UMC President John Viehman. “This collective effort illustrates our strong belief that working together makes us a stronger community.”

Sierra Dietz, owner of the Grasshopper Shop and a driving force behind Day of Giving, recalls that last year’s Day of Giving was a highlight of the holiday season. "Last year we successfully reinvigorated this opportunity to give back to our communities, and this year we are building on that with even more businesses showing their support for the good work of UMC. What a wonderful way to incorporate the spirit of giving into our holiday season!"

Nora Michaels of Thomas Michaels Design in Camden, participating in Day of Giving, hopes shoppers to come out in force to support the local businesses' efforts. "Our community is so supportive of local shops, we encourage everyone to come downtown and help us give even more back to our local agencies through UMC!"

Participating stores will display Day of Giving posters and are listed online at  www.unitedmidcoastcharities.org.
