ROCKLAND — Rockland firefighters and emergency medical responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate a driver, 31-year-old Aaron Fogg, from a pickup truck after it crashed into a power pole, sending wires across the road.

As of Monday, Nov. 27, Fogg remained at Maine Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation as of Friday, Dec. 1, according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Chris Young.

The crash occurred at 11:03 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, in the South End of Rockland, near 138 Main Street.

Rockland’s response and rescue squads arrived to find the pole snapped in half, with multiple low-hanging wires. The truck had sustained heavy damage, and callers to Knox Regional Communications Center were reporting the driver as deceased.

Firefighters found the the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, unresponsive and trapped, but alive.

They quickly got to work, and in 12 minutes, had cut with Jaws of Life tools into the metal and frame of the truck to extricate the driver.

“LifeFlight was called while the fire and EMS personnel were extricating the patient from the wreckage and the patient was transported by Rockland Fire and EMS to Pen Bay Medical Center where LifeFLight transferred the patient to a trauma center,” reported Rockland Fire and EMS Chief Chris Whytock, on Nov. 26. “CMP was called to the scene, replaced the broken pole, and restored power to the South End within a few hours of the crash.”
