Windjammers best Lions; Pease gets double-double

Fri, 12/19/2014 - 11:00am

BELFAST — Camden Hills’ Rachel Pease pulled 13 rebounds and bucketed 12 points to earn herself a double-double, when one gets double digit numbers in two of the possible five categories — points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots, and guided the Windjammers to a sweet 52-46 victory over the Belfast Lions.

Indeed, it was a thrilling night and also a somewhat odd one, as most high school varsity basketball games are not played on a Thursday night. However, both squads brought an exciting feel to a Thursday evening that kept many fans hanging onto the edge of their seats.

Scoring for the Windjammers were Charlotte Messer (15 pionts), Maddie Bowman (13 points), Pease (12), Hannah Wincklhofer and Eliza Boetcsh (five each) and Mara Dostie (two).

The Windjammers were 21-for-39 (54 percent) from the free-throw line.

Scoring for the Lions were Mariah Sturgis (13 points), Keki Faulkingham (12), Breann Cummings (10), Vanessa Grotton (five) and Hannah Richards and Anna Simmons (three each).

The Lions were 10-for-22 (45 percent) at the free throw line.

The Windjammers hit the road for its next contest Monday, Dec. 22 when they travel to Morse for a 6:30 p.m. contest, while the Lions will host Erskine Academy at the same time.

The Lions and Windjammers will again meet Saturday, Jan. 31 in Rockport for a 1 p.m. contest.
