William S. Orne Jr., obituary

WASHINGTON - William S. Orne Jr. ,70, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, May 6, 2018.

Born July 9, 1947 in Rockland to William S. Sr and Christine Upham Orne of Monhegan Island, Bill or "Billy" called by some spent most of his childhood living on Monhegan Island. He lived in the Midcoast area for many years to follow, working as a truck driver and diesel mechanic.

Bill had a love for trucks, he had several of his own over the years. Some may remember Bill as "Slowpoke". It was his CB handle, he was known for taking his time and always stopping for a cup of coffee with friends and family along the way.

After about 40 years of cold Maine winters, Bill moved to Florida where he met the love of his life, Dollie, while working as a Diesel Mechanic for Williams Disposal. Bill worked for Waste Management for several years before he and Dollie started B & D Mobile, a mobile mechanic business. The couple then opened a garage in Bradenton, FL called Squirrelly, Inc.

Bill enjoyed eating lobster, family get togethers, vacationing on cruises, camping in his RV, gambling in Biloxi Mississippi & Atlantic City, spending time in Georgia, the Great Smokey Mtns, and visiting Monhegan Island while spending many summers at his cousin Jimmy's cottage in Washington. The last eight years, Bill resided in Washington, spending time with his mother. While being back in Maine, his days were spent tinkering on a truck or two or visiting friends for a chat or a cup of coffee. In the evening he would call his family and longtime friends.

Bill is predeceased by his father, step father Estern Wellman, and step-daughter Susie Bobitski, Bill is survived by his mother, Christine (Upham) Wellman of Washington; wife Dollie Williams-Orne of Sarasota, Florida; brother Michael Orne of Friendship; and sister Ellen (Wellman) Jorgensen; son, Alan Grindle of Cushing; daughter Angela (Orne) Sarmanian and son-in-law John Sarmanian of Rockland; step-children Debbie, Dawn, Tom, and Gabe of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren Sebastian Sarmanian and Seth Sarmanian of Rockland; Alan Grindle Jr. and Hannah Grindle of Cushing; step-grandchildren Dollie, J.R., Keyra, Mikey, Jacoby, Jesse and Kailey of Florida and Macky, Brandie, and Victoria of Georgia, along with three great grandchildren of Sarasota, Florida and many aunts, cousins and nieces and nephews in Maine.
