William F. Daggett, obituary

ROCKLAND — William F. Daggett, 87, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at his home in Rockland. Born in Rockland, November 2, 1936, he was the son of Malcolm and Bertha (Staples) Daggett. He graduated from Rockland High School in 1955.

After graduating Bill joined the Navy where he spent most of his service on board the USS Macon. Bill had several jobs which included running the pumps at the Hocking granite quarry, the US Postal Service and the Maine State Prison. Most of Bill’s career was spent at Fisher Engineering where worked in quality control, until retiring in 2001, after 31 years.

Bill married his high school sweetheart, Betty Withee, in 1958 and they remained happily married until Betty’s death in 2019. Betty and Bill made their home in Thomaston where they raised their four children. They retired to their home in Rockland in 2007.

Bill enjoyed puttering in his garden and for many years digging potatoes was a family event. Bill played baseball in his youth and enjoyed sports of any kind. He was a lifelong NY Giants fan and avidly followed the Celtics and Red Sox.

Bill never walked away from a hard day’s work and always put his family first. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty.

He is survived by his son, Gregori and his wife Wendy; daughters, Beth Smith and her husband Michael, Heidi Smith and her husband Glenn, Jennifer Morris and her husband Hale; grandchildren, Gregori Daggett Jr, Michael Smith Jr, Amanda Cunningham, Brittany Dondlinger, Benjamin and Noah Smith and Hale and Kellan Morris; great-grandchildren, Sebastian Daggett, Hayzen Smith, Olive and Rosie Cunningham and Addilyn and Brooklyn Dondlinger.

A graveside service will be announced in June. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, 46 Summer Street, Rockland, Maine 04841.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
