Plant and Bake Sale ..... Memorial Day Parade .... for those lost at sea

This Week in Lincolnville: Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day snuck up on us
Wed, 05/20/2015 - 9:00pm

LINCOLNVILLEMemorial Day has sort of snuck up on us this year with the day falling on the earliest possible date: May 25. Once again, the town’s Memorial Day parade will start at the Library at 1 p.m., travel down Main Street to the War Memorials, then turning at Petunia Pump to Hope Road and the school. A brief ceremony here will include a short address by Rodney Lynch.

Following the parade and ceremony in the Center, the color guard will go down to Frohock Brook bridge at the Beach for a short ceremony honoring those lost at sea.

Veterans are encouraged to walk in the parade; vehicles will be available for those not wanting to walk the distance. Call Rosey, 975-5432, if you need to ride.

In case of rain the parade will be cancelled, but the ceremony at the school will take place inside in Walsh Common at 1 p.m.

Other activities over the week-end include Tranquility Grange’s annual Spring Fling, a public supper followed by their popular variety show. The supper goes from 5-6 p.m., but it’s a good idea to arrive close to 5. The Variety Show begins at 6. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 5-12, and those 90 and over or 4 and under get in free.

Sunday morning Rev. Kate Braestrup will be the guest speaker at United Christian Church, 9:30 a.m., all welcome.

Lincolnville Library’s plant and bake sale during the day, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Library. If you have plants to donate, for example, perennials you’ve divided or seedlings, leave them near the Library entrance. Donations of baked goods will be welcome that day for the sale, as well.

If you ordered geraniums from the Library, pick them up Friday, 4-6:30 p.m., at the Library parking lot, or Monday at the plant sale.
