A winter storm warning is in effect through midnight Saturday, Feb. 13, and the National Weather Service has forecast as much as 10 inches of snow for the Midcoast. The snow has been falling since around 7 a.m. and is expected to continue through the day, with frigid temperatures to following.

A wind chill advisory remains in effect from midnight Saturday until 10 a.m. on Sunday, with wind chills as low as 30 below zero due to temperatures of minus 7 to 4 above zero. Winds will be northwest at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph.

Over on Vinalhaven, the snow is piling up, according to Knox County Emergency Management Agency Director Ray Sisk. Offering a “dooryard report” from the island in Penobscot Bay.

Vinalhaven EMA Director Marc Candage is reporting 15 inches of snow as of 10 a.m. And the picture on adjacent North Haven is similar, said Sisk, with about a foot of snow on the ground already being reported by North Haven EMS Service Chief April Brown.

Meanwhile, out in Washington, Sisk said that EMA staffer Don Grinnell is reporting “just a dusting” in his hometown, with a radio report from Isle au Haut advising “not much.”

“The radar is showing little [snow] for the Mount Desert Island area....Looks like Penobscot Bay is the slot for the trough,” said Sisk.
