THOMASTON — Watts Hall Community Players announces auditions for its upcoming summer show, Pirates of Penzance. Auditions will be held in Watts Hall on Main Street, Thomaston on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on and Sunday, April 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Performance dates are June 29, 30 and July 1, 6 and 7. Those unable to make either of these days should contact the director, Daryl Hahn, at darylhahn@gmail.com.

This updated version of Gilbert & Sullivan's hilarious musical is packed full of swashbuckling pirates of all sizes and ages, a troop of bumbling policemen, a bevy of local beauties with their sisters, aunts, chaperones, and the delightful "model of a modern Major-General" for a rollicking romp over the beaches and boardwalks of the Jersey shore.

There are parts for youngsters, tweens, teens, young adults, adults, older adults, and older older adults. There will be multiple other ways to get involved in this production as well. Those wishing to help behind the scenes or with other production tasks may come to auditions or email the director. Families with children are especially encouraged to participate. Being a part of live theater is a wonderful way for families to have fun together.

Music for the show will be under the direction of Sean Fleming. Those wishing one of the lead roles (The Pirate King, Frederic, Ruth, Mabel, General Stanley or the Police Sergeant) should come to auditions prepared to perform a specific number from the show. Music for these specific numbers may be obtained at seanfleming.org. Others will be asked to sing as part of a group.

Rehearsals will begin on Thursday, April 26 and will continue through May and June. Generally, late Sunday afternoons and Tuesday and Thursday evenings will be devoted to rehearsing though not everyone will be required to attend all rehearsals. Realizing daily life is hectic, scheduling accommodations will be made as much as possible. The director welcomes questions at darylhahn@gmail.com. Feel free to contact her for more information about the show or how to best prepare for auditions.
