Warren woman seriously injured in Frankfort crash Monday

A driver who over corrected her drifting vehicle was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center Monday afternoon with serious injuries she sustained in what resulted in a two-car crash.

According tot the Waldo County Sheriff's Office in a release, Deputy Darrin Moody responded to a 911 call about the Aug. 31 crash just after 1 p.m. The accident occurred on Main Road South (Route 1A)  in Frankfort.

Moody determined that Sherrie Demmons, 48, of Warren, was driving a 1988 Toyota truck northbound on Route 1A when her vehicle drifted off the pavement on the ditch side of the travel lane. Moody said it appeared that Demmons over corrected, causing the truck to veer back onto the road and across the center, where she hit a 2001 Nissan Xterra traveling in the opposite direction.

The operator of the Nissan was Robert Prescott, 49, of Bangor.

Frankfort, Prospect and Winterport Fire departments and ambulance services from Winterport and Stockton Springs responded along with the deputy.

Prescott was transported to Waldo County General Hospital with minor injuries while Demmons was transported to the hospital in Bangor.

Moody said the accident is still actively under investigation. At this time, no charges have been filed.
