Waldoboro Diamondbacks season underway

The 2017 Little League Softball season is underway for the Waldoboro Diamondbacks. Through two games, the team is 1-1 on the year. 

According to Andrea Williamson, the Diamondbacks are a young team and this will be a rebuilding year since the squad only has two returning sixth grade veterans.

Waldoboro Diamondbacks 17, Warren B 8

During the first inning Lachey was on the mound for Warren B. She was able to strike out three batters, walk five and have one single taken off her pitching as she was on the mound for opening day. The Diamondbacks scored four runs.

During the first inning for the Diamondbacks, Kytana Williamson took the mound. She was able to strike out one, walk three and the fielders behind her were able to make their plays in the field for two more outs. Hope Mason fielded a routine ground ball and threw out the runner to first, caught by Olivia Pelkey at first base. Catcher Kaileigh Austin threw the ball to Williamson, covering at home, as Warren B tried to steal home on a passed ball, but Austin threw it to Williamson and she tagged the runner for the out. Warren B scored no runs.

During the second inning, Lachey was on the mound again and she had one strike out, three walks and Warren B was able to tag out girls running to home on past balls two times, keeping the Diamondbacks to scoring one run in the second.

Williamson pitched the second inning as well and she had one strike out, four walks and three hits. Plays took place in the field for the Diamondbacks to get the other two outs. Chelsea Sykes at short stop fielded the ball and threw it to Kendal Simmons at third base, and Williamson fielded the ball at the mound and threw it to Pelkey, at first base, for the out. Warren B scored four runs.

During the third Madison took over at the mound for Warren B. She walked nine batters and the Diamondbacks scored six runs, when the inning switched. 

During the third Sykes took over at the mound for the Diamondbacks and she had two strike outs and four walks. Four runs scored. 

During the fourth Madison pitched again for Warren B, she had seven walks and one single hit. Diamondbacks scored six runs.

Sykes pitched in the fourth and she had one strike out, two walks and one hit. The fielders made to successful plays behind her. Williamson at short stop threw to Pelkey on first base for an out. Then minutes later Pelkey made a solo play at first getting the other out. Warren B scored one run. 

At the plate for the Diamondbacks, Haley Puchalski, Austin, Pelkey and Cameron Bains each had one single. 

At the plate for Warren B, Kaylee, Lillian and Marissa each had one single. 

Phillies 16, Diamondbacks 15

In the circle for the Diamondbacks in the team’s first game of the season were Sykes (four innings, five strikeouts, nine walks, three hits, 10 runs) and Simmons (one inning, one strikeout, eight walks, six runs). 

In the circle for the Phillies were Quinn Overlock (3.2 innings, eight strikeouts, 14 walks, one hit, 10 runs), Maddi Simmons (0.1 innings, five walks, one hit-by-pitch, three runs) and Maddy Greenrose (one inning, two strikeouts, three walks, two runs). 

At the plate for the Diamondbacks was Puchalski who had one single. 

At the plate for the Phillies was Riley Astani, Ruth Havener, Maddi Simmons and Sarah Nelson who each had one single. Maddi Simmons also had one RBI.
