Waldo County Steamboat charging through season

BELFAST — The 2015 American Legion season for Waldo County Steamboat is well underway with a handful of games under their belts.

The team is comprised of players that have played at least one high school season for Belfast, Searsport and Mount View.

Following are game recaps of the team's contests thus far.

June 22: Bangor 10, Waldo County Steamboat 0

In the team's first contest of the regular season, after the originally schedule season-opener was rained out June 21, Waldo County could not muster any runs and fell 10-0 to Bangor.

Bangor plated two runs in the fifth and eight in the seventh inning.

At the plate for Waldo County Steamboat were Alex Flagg (single) and David Clark (double).

At the plate for Bangor were Crichton (two singles, run), DeLaite (single, run), Huston (two singles, run), Prescott (run), Rookins (double), Cote (single, two runs), McCue (run), Kemba (single, two runs) and Stevenson (run).

Full names for Bangor were not available.

June 24: Waldo County Steamboat 8, Penquis 3

The Waldo County squad pulled off an 8-3 victory against Penquis June 24 to begin the season with a 1-1 record.

Waldo County Steamboat plated five in the first, two in the second and one in the seventh. Meanwhile, Penquis plated two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth.

At the plate for Waldo County Steamboat were Alex Flagg (run), Emery Dinsmore (single, run), Zach Collier (double, run), Drew Stanley (single, run), David Clark (single, run), Matt Smith (single, two runs), Sam Kulikowski (single) and Brandon Porter (run).

At the plate for Penquis were Rockwell (run), C. Pratt (run) and Brock (single, run).

Full names for Penquis were not available.

June 25: Hampden 2, Waldo County Steamboat 0

Waldo County Steamboat moved to 1-2 on the season with a 2-0 loss to Hampden June 25.

Hampden's two runs came in the eighth inning of the contest.

At the plate for Waldo County Steamboat were Emery Dinsmore (single), Zach Collier (single), Drew Stanley (single), Lucien Gordley-Smith (single) and Matt Smith (single).

At the plate for Hamdpen were M. Turner (two singles, run), C. Farmer (home run), B. Campbell (single), J. Gilmore (single), T. Benton (single) and J. Dysant (single).

Full names for Hampden were not available.

June 27: Trenton 13, Waldo County Steamboat 3

Trenton plated seven runs in the first inning, one each in the fourth and fifth and three in the sixth. Meanwhile, Waldo County Steamboat plated two in the third and one in the fifth.

At the plate for Waldo County Steamboat were Alex Flagg (two singles, two runs), Emery Dinsmore (single), Drew Stanley (two singles), Sam Kulikowski (run) and Alex Canning (two singles).

At the plate for Trenton were Maguire (single, three runs), Archambault (two singles, two runs), Locke (single, run), Blanco (run), Bagley (single), Ricker (single, run), Vinal (run), Young (single, double, two runs), and Paola (single, run).

Full names for Trenton were not available.

June 29: Motor City 1, Waldo County Steamboat 0

Motor City just barely squeaked out this win when they managed to plate a run in the second inning.

At the plate for Waldo County Steamboat were Emery Dinsmore (double), Drew Stanley (single), Zach Collier (single) and David Clark (double).

At the plate for Motor City were Hoogterp (single) and Young (run).

Full names for Motor City were not available.

July 1: Messalonskee 13, Waldo County Steamboat 5

In Belfast July 1, Messalonskee was able to pull out a 13-5 victory over the hosts.

Messalonskee plated three in the first, seven in the second and one each in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Meanwhile, Waldo County Steamboat scored three in the fourth and one each in the sixth and seventh.

At the plate for Waldo County Steamboat were Mikey Hustus (run), Drew Stanley (two singles, two runs), David Clark (run), Matt Smith (double) and Rick Wyman (run).

At the plate for Messalonskee were Martin (single, two runs), Warren (two singles, two runs), Hapworth (two runs), Dexter (home run, two runs), Posien (three singles, run), Bowen (single, run), Folsom (home run) and Cunningham (single, run).

Full names for Messalonskee were not available. 

July 2: Midcoast 5, Waldo County Steamboat 4

Waldo County Steamboat took an early 4-0 lead over Midcoast July 2 in Waldoboro. Ultimately, however, Midcoast rallied back to tie it 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth and then won the game on a walk-off single in the seventh.
