WALDO — Thieves stole from the very organization that helps folks get through the winter with firewood provisions. County sheriff’s deputies are now asking the community’s help in identifying the culprits.

A representative of the Waldo County Woodshed visited the sheriff’s office in Belfast Feb. 23, reporting the theft of approximately 1.5 cords of firewood. The wood is kept in the Woodshed’s storage facility in Waldo.

Deputy Jonathan Shaw met with Waldo County Woodshed representatives and learned that the firewood was likely taken earlier in the day by unknown suspect(s) in a black pickup.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Waldo County Sheriff's Office at 207-338-2040 and speak with Deputy Shaw.

Waldo County Woodshed is a volunteer nonprofit group that works to provide firewood for people in need in the Waldo County. For more information about Waldo County Woodshed please visit website waldocountywoodshed.org.
