OWLS HEAD — Virginia F. Gamage, 70, passed away on May 19, 2016, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, due to injuries sustained in an accident on May 10.

Born in Lowell, Mass., on Sept. 3, 1945, she was the daughter of James and Arietta Snowman Willis. After moving to Owls Head at a young age, Ginny was raised on the property where she and her husband have since resided and raised their family of three boys. On Dec. 9, 1960, she married Norman E. Gamage in Rockland. The couple made their first home in Rockland, prior to moving to Owls Head.

Ginny was devoted to her family and her generous spirit caused her to help anyone she could. She loved putting together family cookouts. If she knew someone didn't like potato salad with onions, then she would make some without the onions, especially for them. She loved camping with her husband and family. A wonderful cook, she loved trying new recipes. She was outspoken, but never judged anyone.

For many years she operated Coley's Comics in Rockland, located on North Main Street. Ginny loved crafts, particularly making seashell and cottage items. Even though she had two brand new sewing machines still in the boxes, she preferred sewing by hand; which she said was always better.

Ginny is survived by her husband of 55 years, Norman Sr. of Owls Head; three sons, Norman Jr. and his companion, Wanda Hayes, of Waldoboro, John Gamage of Owls Head, and William and Andrea Gamage of Waldoboro; her brother, Jack Willis and his wife, Bonita, of Northport; her sisters, Judy and her husband, Ron Michaud, of Westfield, and Doris Steele of Owls Head; six grandchildren, Nickole, Pennie, Christopher, Ryan, Joseph and Shaydlyn; and 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family members.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St. in Rockland. A graveside committal will be held Friday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at Ocean View Cemetery on Spruce Head Road (Route 73) in South Thomaston.

Those who wish may make memorial donations to Meals-on-Wheels, Making Community Happen, 46 Summer Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
