Vinalhaven, Medomak set to play for regional basketball championships

AUGUSTA — The regional championship high school basketball games have been set and two local squads will be eyeing the opportunity to hoist the regional championship trophy and play for a state crown. 

Both the Medomak Valley boys and Vinalhaven girls won their respective regional semifinal contests, with Medomak Valley knocking off second-seeded Nokomis 49-44 on Wednesday, Feb. 21 and Vinalhaven topping fourth-seeded Greenville 54-34 in a Thursday morning contest.

The sixth-seeded Medomak Valley boys basketball team will be challenging top-seeded Hampden Academy on Friday, Feb. 23 at 8:45 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.

The top-seeded Vinalhaven girls basketball will be riding a 32-game winning streak into the Saturday Feb. 24 showdown against second-seeded Rangeley at 1:05 p.m. at the Augusta Civic Center.
