WARREN — Knox County Sheriff's deputies responded around 5:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a two-vehicle accident in Warren, and found the driver of a car that failed to stop at a stop sign was deceased.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the accident occurred at the intersection of Ridge and Augusta roads, and involved a 2007 Nissan Versa sedan and a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

The driver of the Nissan, Arthur Emanuelson, 73, of Waldoboro,  was found to have failed to stop at the stop sign as he traveled south on Old Augusta Road, and was struck broadside, in the driver’s side door, by the Chevy truck, which was driving south on Ridge Road (Route 235).

The driver of the Chevy truck was Edward Matson Jr., 39, also of Waldoboro. Emanuelson died at the scene, and his identity was not released until Monday, when police were able to notify his family.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, both drivers were wearing seat belts and the airbags in the Nissan deployed in the crash, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies also said that Emanuelson was a participant in Knox County's Yellow Dot program, which is a safety initiative designed to put important medical information into the hands of first responders at the scene in the case of an accident or other medical emergency. A yellow dot sticker in a vehicle’s window alerts emergency responders that the driver is a participant in the program.

"His personal information, from the program, is proving to be beneficial in identifying and assisting in the investigation," said Knox County Sheriff's Lt. Reggie Walker in the press release.

Deputies Matt Elwell and Nate Jack are investigating the accident, and Warren Fire and Rescue responded, along with Waldoboro Rescue. A reconstruction of the accident is being conducted by Rockland Police Sgt. Ken Smith.

Walker said no charges are expected as a result of the accident.
