United Midcoast Charities elects six new directors

CAMDEN — United Midcoast Charities (UMC) elected six new members to its board of directors at the organization's annual meeting in August. They are Rockport residents Lori Alexander, Leni Gronros and Alexandra Wolf (Sani) Fogel; Chris Beebe and Jeffrey James "Jamie" Weymouth, of Camden; and Jay Foster, of Lincolnville.

"We are delighted with the talent, commitment and energy these new board members bring to our work supporting service providers in Knox and Waldo counties," said UMC President John Viehman. "They have joined a strong, engaged board that welcomes their experiences as professionals and volunteers who care deeply about the needs of local people and the agencies that serve them."

Alexander is a real estate agent at Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty in Camden. She and her husband John are former owners of Megunticook Campground by the Sea and Camden Hills RV Resort. She enjoyed volunteering as a Big Sister for seven years.

Beebe is former owner of Steel Pro in Rockland, where he now serves as chairman of the board. He has been treasurer of the Farnsworth Museum and a board member at Pen Bay Healthcare.

Fogel served on nonprofit boards in Philadelphia for many years. She was founding director of Delaware Valley Grantmakers and created the Maine Philanthropy Center. She has served on the Rockport Select Board and is president of Bay Chamber Concerts.

Foster worked for Trans World Airlines, eventually serving as the company's director of operations at Newark International Airport. He is a member of the West Bay Rotary Club, has served on town communities in Lincolnville and volunteers at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.

Gronros and his wife, Kimberlee Graffam, own Graffam Bros. Seafood and are former owners of Penobscot Bay Ice Company. He has served as Rotary District 7790 Governor for Maine and Quebec and is an active member of the Camden Rotary Club.

Weymouth manages Megunticook Real Estate and Management Company and owns the Camden Clothesline laundromat. He has been involved with Camden town committees and the Megunticook Watershed Association and is a volunteer ski coach at the Camden Snow Bowl.

Other members of the UMC board are John Viehman, President; Betsy Saltonstall, 1st Vice President; Jill Lang, 2nd Vice President; John Burgess, Secretary; Tom Rodman, Treasurer; Debbie Mitchell, Executive Committee Member at Large; and directors Lucile Hanscom, Elinor Klivans, Tyler Jones, Peter Palermo, Joan Phaup, and Eric Waters.

United Midcoast Charities, founded in 1942, is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to support nonprofit organizations that provide social services and care to those in need in the Midcoast.
