Union Fair organizers seek quilters for theme: Maine, the Pine Tree State

Sat, 04/07/2018 - 8:15pm

The Exhibition Hall at Union Fair, August 18-25, is promoting a queen-sized quilt themed around “Maine, the Pine Tree State.”  This Exhibition Hall is the home of the displays of art, photography, quilts, fancy work, flowers, and vegetables.  In addition, local Granges, the County Extension, Union Historical Society, and the Lincoln County Quilts of Valor proudly show the work that they are involved with.

Organizers are soliciting 12 ½ inch squares from interested quilters to make up this quilt.  The style of the square and the technique used is entirely up to the quilter, keeping in mind the theme: “Maine, the Pine Tree State.”

The quilter should also keep the design/pattern within the 12-inch square to allow for the ½ inch seam allowance.  Blocks will be incorporated into the quilt as space permits.  The quilter(s) should not put their name on the front of the block.

Each square will be numbered as they are received and will be voted upon by visitors to the Fair.  The three top squares with the most votes will receive a monetary prize TBD.  The quilt itself will be on display at the Exhibit Hall during the Fair and will be awarded on Saturday, August 25.  Tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5.

All squares should be completed and sent/delivered to Linda Billings, Superintendent of the Exhibition Hall, by June 30.  Please, only one square per person.  The quilter should also include their name, address, phone number and e-mail address.  For questions: 549-7207 or llbilli@aol.com.  Linda Billings, PO Box 992, Jefferson, Maine 04348-0992.

The Union Fair is  on the Union Fairgrounds, just off Route 17 in Union. For more information on the 2018 Union Fair, visit www.unionfair.org.
