UMO Black Bears hockey team to appear at MRC ice arena open house

ROCKPORT — The University of Maine Black Bears will be running a clinic as well as attending a public skate to sign autographs during Midcoast Recreation Center’s Ice Arena Open House on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The Ice Arena Open house will start at 10 a.m. and run until 3 p.m.. This is a great opportunity for instruction by MRC’s fabulous skating instructors. Whether you are just starting out or are a more advanced skater, this is a wonderful chance to get on the ice and try it out, the event press release noted. Looking to register for the upcoming season? You can register for all programs at this time and have a winter full of fun, friends, excitement and learning. 

All activities are free to the public. Please call Midcoast Recreation Center to register for the free classes being provided 236-9400.

Schedule of events:

10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — Figure Skating Demo
10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. — Learn to Skate (Open to all levels of experience and ages)
11:10 a.m to 11:45 a.m. — Learn to Play Hockey (For brand new skaters and players)
Noon to 12:30 p.m. — University of Maine Hockey Clinic (Grades 4-7) (1 year hockey experience required)
12:40 p.m. to 1 p.m. — University of Maine Clinic Grades (Grades K-3) (1 year hockey experience required)
1 p.m. to 1:40 p.m. — Skate with the Bears (Open to all levels of experience and ages)
1:40 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Public Skate
All Day — Register for Programs

Midcoast Recreation Center (MRC) is a non-profit organization committed to the promotion of healthy living in our community through sports and fitness programs. MRC is conveniently located on Route 90 in Rockport and houses an ice rink, four indoor tennis courts, and three fitness/dance studios. In addition to public skating and tennis court rentals, sports and fitness programs at MRC include youth and adult ice hockey, figure skating, learn-to-skate, junior and adult tennis, private and group tennis lessons, group fitness classes, personal training, and dance.
