WASHINGTON – Two people were injured around noon today, Saturday, August 19, when a golf cart was struck by a car on Billings Road, Rte 73, in Washington. The two occupants sustained injuries from being pinned underneath the car. The first individual to be freed from underneath the Subaru sustained a broken arm and a broken leg. The other sustained a head injury. Both were taken by Union and Waldoboro EMS to an area hospital.

The collision between the car and golf cart also involved a telephone pole.

According to a news release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, a female juvenile operator was driving a 2004 Subaru eastbound as she rounded a corner and saw a golf cart operated by Robert Stover, 79, of Appleton, was in the road. The golf cart had just left a driveway and was headed across the street to check the mailbox. The operator of the Subaru could not stop in time and hit the golf cart, ejecting both operator and passenger, Judith Brann, 78, of Washington. The Subaru travelled a short distance before it crossed over the road and struck a utility pole.

Stover and Brann were transported to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The two people in the Subaru were not injured.

Both vehicles were a total loss.

Washington Fire and Union Ambulance also responded to the scene to assist.

As soon as responding Washington personnel could get away from Billings Road, they headed straight to another accident on the Liberty Road. That accident involved a car hitting a telephone pole. The driver sustained some bleeding to the ear. Northeast Ambulance responded, but did not transport the patient.

The telephone remains standing, yet altered.

CMP was called to both scenes to deal with the poles.
