YORK — The U12 Pen Bay Boys Soccer team won the Harvest Cup tournament over Columbus Day weekend in York where 12 teams competed in the U12 boy’s age group with the two groups of six teams. The winners of the each group played the runners up in the opposite group at the semifinal stage with the winners advancing to the final.

Pen Bay won all three of their group qualifying games to advance to the semifinals. The games were very competitive and they had to work hard to get the results.

Pen Bay advanced to the final by defeating Marshwood–Melino by a 2-0 score. Both teams played a little sluggish but it was a good game and it set up a rematch with York–Blue in the final.

The final was a very intense game against a very strong York team. It was an end-to-end game and Cam Brown put Pen Bay ahead after 20 minutes. In the second half, opportunities went both ways and Liam O’Dwyer scored from long range shot with about 15 minutes to play. Karl Hokkanen had a great weekend in goal and he made some crucial saves in the final to help the team win the tournament.

It was a great team effort and all the players contributed to the victory by playing some really good soccer and working hard and never giving up. It was just another great weekend for the players, families and coaches to bond. It is a fun tournament that will also help prepare the team for the upcoming state playoffs.

Our soccer club has done a great job again in tournament play. They had to make some tough decisions and changes due to the heavy rain and I am pleased that we were able to finish the tournament.

The U12 Pen Bay Soccer team are represented Ryan Anderson, Travis Dube, Griffin Dubrow, Will Duke, Karl Hokkanen, Eric LeBlond, Vishal Mellor, Slavic Moody, Miles Murray, Charlie Pons, Owen Reynolds, Alexander Todd, Liam O’Dwyer and Cam Brown. The team was coached by Patrick Mellor, Scott Pons and Dwight Pitcairn.
