Two Unity men charged with domestic violence assault in separate weekend incidents

    UNITY — Waldo County Sheriff's deputies arrested two Unity men over last weekend, following two separate incidents , Nov. 14 and 16, when the men are accused of assaulting family members.

    Friday night around 9:40, deputies responded to a residence in Unity and learned that Mark Lessard, 45, had engaged in a verbal argument with his step-son, which escalated when Lessard allegedly assault the boy by physically pushing him out of the residence.

    Lessard is then accused of physically assaulting the child's mother by allegedly placing her into a head lock.

    Deputy Kyle Wasiela and Sgt. James Greeley arrested Lessard and charged him with two counts of class D domestic assault, according to a press release. Lessard was also arrested on two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court.

    He was released over the weekend on $1,150 cash bail.

    The second arrest occurred Sunday, at approximately 4:20 p.m., also in Unity.

    Wasiela and Sgt. Matthew Curtis were called to investigate the incident during which Christopher Giggey, 37, had allegedly become upset with his girlfriend and struck her with a computer. In addition to damaging the computer, Giggey is accused of assaulting her by use of strangulation.

    Giggey was arrested and charged with class B aggravated domestic assault, class D domestic assault and domestic criminal mischief.

    According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, due to the nature of Giggey's criminal charged, no bail is allowed to be set, requiring an appearance before a judge.
