Two area basketball players to participate in Maine McDonald’s All-Star activities

BANGOR — Two Midcoast area basketball players have been selected to play in the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games at Husson University and one Midcoast athlete is a semi-finalist for the Mr. Maine Basketball Award. 

“Players representing more than 100 high schools from across the state have been honored with selection to the All-Star teams,” according to the press release. “The All-Stars were selected based upon ballot returns in a statewide high school basketball coaches’ vote conducted by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches in January.”

"Each spring the owner/operators of Maine's McDonald's restaurants look forward to supporting one of Maine’s premiere sports events and recognizing student athletes across the state,” said Rich Hogan, owner/operator of McDonald’s restaurants in Maine, according to the release. “We salute the Maine McDonald's All-Star selections for their dedication to academic and athletic excellence, sportsmanship and team spirit."

Cameron Allaire of Medomak Valley will be playing on the boys Classes AA/A/B North squad and Barrett Grant will play on the boys Classes C/D North squad.

Allaire is also a semi-finalist for the 2017 Mr. Maine Basketball Award.

The 2017 Maine McDonald's High School Senior All-Star Basketball Games are scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 11 at Newman Gymnasium on the campus of Husson University in Bangor. The game-day program will feature head-to-head competition between top players in the state in North vs. South basketball action. 

Tip-off times for each of the March 11 All-Star Games are as follows:

8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. State Foul Shooting Championship
9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Girls AA/A/B Game
10:45 a.m. to Noon Boys AA/A/B Game 
Noon to 12:15 p.m. MABC Presentations and RMHC of Maine Presentation
12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Maine Athletic Fundraising Three Point Shooting Competition 
12:30 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Dr Pepper® Slam Dunk Competition
1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Boys C/D Game
2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Girls C/D Game

All-Star players and All-Star coaches, members of the All-State Academic teams, Regional Foul Shooting Champions, Maine McDonald’s Spirit of the Game Award recipients, MABC Contributor Award honoree, and Mr. and Miss Basketball will be honored at an awards banquet on Friday, Mar. 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.

All-Star game tickets may be purchased at the door on Saturday, Mar. 11, and are good for all four games. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students and children age 12 and under. The finalists for Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball will be announced the week of Feb. 27. Committees are also choosing the recipients of two $2,000 academic scholarships awarded to one boy and one girl member of the All-State Academic Team, and two Spirit of the Game Award winners who embody the spirit of the sport, exemplify sportsmanship, support and inspire their teammates and coaching staff, and show an ability to overcome obstacles and boundaries.

The 2017 All-Star Games mark Maine McDonald’s 29th consecutive year as lead sponsor of this event. Net proceeds from the games benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of Maine. Last year’s All-Star Weekend raised a record $40,000 for the Charities. Since its founding in 1998, RMHC of Maine has granted more than $3 million to more than 250 non-profit organizations that positively impact the health and well-being of children and families in Maine and eastern New Hampshire.
