Three people were taken to hospitals with apparent minor injuries Saturday after a three-car accident on Edgecomb’s Route 1, Lincoln County Sheriff’s officers said at the scene.

The accident happened near Pioneer Motel shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25. All three cars were northbound when the one in front started to turn left to enter the motel lot on the opposite side of the road, Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Dennison said at the scene. The second car began a right-side pass of the turning car, at which point the third car struck the back of the turning car and part of the back of the passing car, as well, Dennison said.

Names of those involved in the accident were not immediately available.

Two went to Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick and one to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Edgecomb Fire Chief Roy Potter said. Sheriff’s officers, Edgecomb and Wiscasset fire departments, Edgecomb First Responders, Wiscasset Ambulance Service and Central Lincoln County Ambulance responded to the scene, Potter said.

The accident slowed Route 1 traffic for about 45 minutes.
