ST. GEORGE — Terrance Leslie “Terry” Beckett, 69, died Feb. 14, 2017, in the comfort of his home in St. George. Terry was born March 9, 1947, in Rockland to parents Virgil Beckett and Lily Peterson Beckett. Terry grew up in St. George and attended local schools.

While Terry was never able to have employment due to health issues, it never stopped him from being a man who always wanted to gain knowledge. Terry amassed a large collection of books that he was always reading and studying. He enjoyed history and could tell anyone things that had gone on many years ago in his town and elsewhere. He was also an avid genealogist for the family.

Some of Terry's favorite pastimes were enjoying what nature had to offer. He was always feeding the birds and animals of the forest. He also enjoyed going to lawn sales in the summer. One of Terry's greatest traits was his nurturing abilities. He had a special bond with his grandparents and was able to take care of them during their later years, and he tended on them until their passing. He also took great care of his father until his passing, and he tended to his mother until her health required that she be placed in a facility to better suit her needs.

Left to cherish Terry's memory is his mother, Lily of St. George; his brother, Arnold and his wife, Julie, of St. George; his nephews, Ryan, and Shawn and his wife, Amy; and his nieces, Jennifer and Jessica Beckett. Terry is also survived by his great-nephews, Brent and Seth Beckett, and Blake Simmons; as well as his great-niece, Carly Simmons. Terry had a special place in his heart for his aunt, Astrid Weaver; and he leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Terry's family has chosen to honor his life privately in the spring/summer of 2017.

Hall's of Thomaston has care of the arrangements.
