Stephen R. McGrath, obituary

DAYTONA BEACH, FL— Stephen R. McGrath, 90, died on September 13, 2017 in Daytona Beach. Steve was born in Camden, Maine on July 4, 1927 and was a member of the Class of 1947 Camden High School. After returning from active duty with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, he attended Jesuit's Boston College, Newton, Massachusetts graduating in 1951 with a B.S. in mathematics.

Steve was then employed by Trans America Ins Co. at their Hartford Ct. branch office. He retired from Trans America in 1976 as a Vice President and General Manager of the New England Regional office.

After retiring to Daytona Beach in 1976, he became a volunteer at St. Paul Catholic Church where he was involved in various outreach ministries. During his tenure as Chairman of the Finance Council, under Pastor Fred Ruse, St. Paul Parish initiated a formalized stewardship program and established a successful church and school endowment trust. The purpose of the endowment trust was to provide funds for future preservation of the historic Church and to assume responsibilities for those in need.

Steve is survived by his niece Laura DiGalbo and her husband David of Burlington Ct.

Calling hours will be held 5-7PM, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Long Funeral Home, 9 Mountain Street, Camden. The graveside service will be held at 11AM, Wednesday,

September 27, 2017 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden.
