ROCKLAND — South School (RSU #13) celebrated Halloween with a pumpkin patch, classroom parties, and a spooktacular costume parade, bringing together students, parents, and staff for a fun-filled day of creativity, laughter, and festive spirit.

Students donned an impressive array of costumes and the air buzzed with excitement as dinosaurs, princesses, witches, ninjas, animals, clowns, an astronaut, and Albert Einstein, walked the track around Wasgatt Field adjacent to the school. Spooky tunes like “The Monster Mash” and “This is Halloween” provided a festive backdrop. Parents and teachers also joined in the festive atmosphere by wearing costumes and adding to the merriment. The creativity and enthusiasm were truly remarkable, as students sported a diverse range of outfits from classic Halloween characters to their favorite book and movie characters.

In addition to the parade, students enjoyed classroom parties with Halloween stories and healthy food choices including pretzels, popcorn, fruit, and vegetables. Throughout the day, classes also enjoyed taking turns visiting the South School Pumpkin Patch where every student was able to search for and keep a mini pumpkin. The pumpkins were all generously donated by Beth’s Farm in Warren.

Principal Arroyo expressed delight at the success of the day’s activities, saying, “The Halloween costume parade is a cherished South School tradition, and it’s wonderful to see our students and their families come together to foster a sense of community and create lasting memories by celebrating Halloween in a safe and enjoyable way.”

Halloween classroom celebrations and costume parades at South School were put on hold during COVID. The school staff looks forward to continuing the beloved tradition in the years to come.
