BELFAST — Two Waldo County residents have been selected to participate in the 2018 Citi National Futures Championship, presented by Harrow Sports. 

The USA Field Hockey event will be held at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pennsylvania June 18-26 and “is the premier championship event for USA Field Hockey's Futures Program, part of the sport's Olympic Development Pipeline,” according to a press release from Team USA.

The release noted the event has been held annually since 1990 and “brings the top female field hockey players selected from more than 4,700 athletes across nine regions.” 

Representing the Belfast area in the Northeast Region of the event will be goalies Madison Shorey and Brooke Richards. 

Shorey, 13, is an eighth grader at Troy Howard and will play on the U-14 team. Richards, 15, is a sophomore at Belfast Area and will play on the U-16 team. This will be the second time both have been selected to their respective groups.
