MARTINSVILLE & ROCKLAND – Sheldon Wayne Curtis, 31, passed-on instantly, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in Bath.

Born in Rockport, April 22, 1986, he was the son of Scottie and Julie Nash Curtis. Educated in St. George and Rockland, one of his fondest moments during school was his graduation from Herring Gut Learning Center. This program culminated in a ten day 'wild and wonderful trip' down the Allagash.

Sheldon started lobstering as a teenager with his student license, and was completing his apprenticeship hours when his father passed away. Continuing his love of the ocean, he was employed for many years as a sternman out of several harbors. He also spent many hours clamming with his parents.

Family was very important to Sheldon, and he looked up to and loved his older brothers more than anything. Together they were always getting into general 'brother trouble' together, and especially enjoyed their favorite pastime 'target practice' at home. He took great pleasure in spending time with his nephews, whether it was playing video games, going to the beach, tossing a ball, or just sitting and talking. Sheldon loved Boggle and Suduko and had a true poker face when playing a friendly game of poker; he had an encyclopedic knowledge of cards. He was known for his throwing arm, and taught many youngsters his technique. He had a magnetic personality, and people were naturally drawn to him. He made friends easily, both young and old. He was non-judgmental, kind and generous and would do anything for anyone. He loved to cook and made a mean fish chowder.

For more than three years, Sheldon and his fiancée Amanda have enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships made at St. Peter's Episcopal Church and St. Bernard's Catholic Church luncheons. After attending the LIFE Church, Sheldon was happy to have been baptized there in August of 2014, giving him great comfort.
Sheldon loved being outdoors, working and playing on the water, fishing, riding his bike, clamming, and swimming at the quarry with his brothers. He loved his fishing heritage and life in Martinsville. It was idyllic and he was excited to share it with others. One of his favorite childhood memories was having these experiences with his cousins from away, taking them swimming in the quarry and having lobster bakes on the beach.

Most recently Sheldon tried his hand at carpentry. As with many things he tried, he found he was good at it and he was looking forward to advancing his career. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
Predeceased by his father Scott; his cousin Kilei Jean; uncle Oliver 'Jim' Dennison; a special uncle Loren Harvey, a.k.a. 'Santa'; and his paternal grandfather Harry Curtis; Sheldon is survived by his mother, Julie Curtis of Rockport; his soulmate and fiancée Amanda Doubleday of Rockland; his brothers, Michael Sawyer and his wife Miranda of Rockland, Mitchell Sawyer and his wife Jennica of St. George. Sheldon was proud of his son Noah Andrew and Noah's mother Amy Allender. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Eli, Michael, Aaron, Brody, Jace, Tristan, Lilly, and Gracie; his maternal grandparents, Ret. Lt. Franklin and Loretta Nash of Rockport; his paternal grandmother Verona Curtis of Port Clyde; aunts and uncles, Carol Carey and her husband Steve of Warren, Pamela Gay and her husband Michael of Warren, Lisa Carleton and her husband Buddy of Owls Head, Wayne Curtis and his wife Carol of Port Clyde, Gloria Dennison of South Thomaston, Rosanne Ausplund and her husband Mark of Tenants Harbor; his great-aunt Ruth Harvey of St. George; his cousins, Benjamin, Tiffany, Cassie, Alyssa, Melissa, Michelle, Evan, Eliza, Jessica, Taylor, Olivia, Chris, Neala, Michael, Megan, Craig, Amy, Michael and Tony; as well as many more cousins and their families, and a large, loving extended family.

An afternoon filled with love and remembrance will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Thomaston American Legion Hall. All are welcome to bring memories and a dish to share.
