It was an unexpectedly beautiful day on the Lincolnville pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the Lynx met the 6th grade Schooners from Camden and defeated them by a score of 6-0. What the Camden eleven may have lacked in stature, they certainly made up for in spirit. They were perhaps the most eager and determined team that LCS has met so far this year. In addition, the Schooners were quite skilled, holding LCS’s powerful offense to two goals in the first half. The first came at just shy of the four minute mark when winger Jackson Bernier made a drive from near midfield to the goal box before sending a nice pass to midfielder Eric Andrews. Andrews turned the ball and relayed it on to an open striker, Yonah Wienges, right in front of the goal who simply tipped the ball into the nets. It took less than a minute for LCS to repeat with Andrews feeding Bernier on the left this time. Bernier gathered in the pass and cannoned it past the keeper. The rest of the half featured a number of tries by both teams with no further results.

With the second half, the Lynx’s offensive prowess began to tell. It started with a an aggressive move by winger Paige Chester with 38 minutes gone as she freed the ball from two Camden defenders and bounced the ball into open space in the box. Wienges controlled the ball on the right, drove past another defender, and cut a hard shot just inside the far post for the tally. Six minutes later, Chester fed Andrews who then drove in on the right side and fired the ball home. That was followed by an unassisted goal by midfielder Emmit Dayhoof, who gathered in a stray ball, drove past the defense on the right, and fired a great finishing shot to find the nets. Finally, Andrews stole a ball from Camden and dribbled right through the middle to break in alone. Andrews adroitly tipped the ball by the charging keeper to complete the play.

The defense, anchored by sweeper Wyatt Munson, stopper Owen Markowitz, and the keeper par excellence Matt Kremin—with a variety of players filling in in the wing defensive positions—played their usual excellent game. Working a great containment defense and covering well whenever a break occurred, they were able to blunt all of Camden’s many tries and thereby maintain the shutout. The fourth shutout of the season, Kremin is on track to break his own record of 6 shutouts (and a shutout percentage of 46%) in a season set last year.

What a great day for soccer!

The game started off with a bang! Both teams were head to head, shot for shot, pass for pass.

The game was scoreless at the end of the first half.

With about eight minutes gone in the second half, MMS was attacking the goal, and Abby Lash shot the ball near the Camden goalie, it was kicked by a few, and then Lizzi Swan was able to find the ball and put it into the back of the net giving MMS the lead 1-0.

At this point MMS never looked back. They kept their lead for the remainder of the game and beat Camden 1-0.

Great defense was played by Zaniah Puchalski, Stephanie Morse, Hannah Lee, Gabby Baughman, Emily Harris, and Eliza Nelson.

Great passing, great crosses, great aggressive soccer was played buy the offense and an all-around great team game by all.

Varsity Boys Soccer: Camden Hills 2, Hampden Academy 0 (Sept. 27)

Max Pushaw scored a terrific goal at 21:09 of the first half and that was all the Windjammers would need to seal the win up at Hampden. Morgan Mercier finished off the end of some beautiful ball movement with 16 minutes left in the half to provide the insurance goals.

Lucas Boetsch and Will Davee combined to make 4 saves for the shutout while Sam Lilley made 6 saves in the losing effort.

Camden Hills held the edge in shots 18-8, and corners 7-0.

"We played pretty well on a challenging surface up in Hampden. The hosts played good defense and it took us a while to unlock it but we possessed the ball nicely and made some good adjustments in the second half. We're very happy to get back in the win column and looking forward to hosting Lewiston on Friday."

Varsity Field Hockey: Morse 4, Oceanside 2 (Sept. 26)

In the first half, Lily Thibodeau socred on an assist by Emma Warner to put Morse up 1-0. Then, Erin Dugan scored for Oceanside off an Ainsley Meklin assist to tie the game and Alexis Mazurek gave the Mariners a 2-1 advantage off a Taylor Hamlin assist.

In the second half, Madine Stroksi and Vanessa St. Pierre scored for Morse, the latter who scored twice, the first time off a Leah Totman assist.

Morse had seven corners compared to Oceanside’s three. Morse had nine shots and Oceanside five. Morse’s Sophie Wilson had three saves while Oceanside’s Jazzmine Johnson had five.
