Samoset announces new health club director

ROCKPORT – A long-time fitness instructor at The Club at the Samoset Resort is stepping into a new role as its director beginning in 2018. Sheryl Carpenter will take over the position on Jan. 22.

Carpenter is a familiar face for members and returning resort guests who have taken her classes through the years. She began teaching fitness classes part-time in 1993 and has been a presence at the Samoset ever since.

Carpenter was born and raised in the Midcoast and attended Georges Valley High School. She graduated from Husson College with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education. Carpenter has worked as a self-employed accountant/bookkeeper for the past 21 years.

"I'm ready for a big change and a new challenge, and this opportunity feels like the perfect combination," Carpenter said. "I feel so fortunate that the time has come for me to put my passion and my profession together in this capacity."

Carpenter is certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) as both a Group Fitness Instructor and a Personal Fitness Trainer. She brings more than 25 years of fitness experience with her, enthusiasm for fresh programming, a vision for club improvements, a proven commitment to the Samoset Resort, and a true desire to be an accessible resource to Club members and resort guests on their journeys toward better health and recreation.

Carpenter is a mother of three and she and her husband, Don, live with her youngest daughter in Tenants Harbor.

The Club features include a cardio theater, Icarian Strength Center, group fitness classes, an indoor swimming pool, a hot tub and steam saunas. Its hours are 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
