SANFORD — Russell L. Willey III, 54, died Oct. 21, 2014, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, after an extended illness.

Born in Rockland on Sept. 26, 1960, he was the son of Russell L. Jr. and Gloria J. Willey Davis. Growing up in Tenants Harbor, he attended St. George School and Georges Valley High School in Thomaston.

Having worked aboard his family's fishing vessel since an early age; Russell worked all his career as a commercial fisherman. He fished aboard scallop draggers out of Gloucester, Mass., Alaska and Rockland, Maine.

Russell is remembered for his happy-go-lucky personality. His family said he was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix anything.

Russell is survived by his children, Ryan Billings of Gloucester, Mass., Russell L. Willey IV of Massachusetts, Brianna Willey of Sanford and Crystal Kennedy of Vinalhaven; his brothers, Kevin Willey and his companion, Storm Hildebrandt, of Damariscotta, Ronald Davis and his wife, Thea, of Rochester, N.H., Trevor Davis of St. George, and Timothy Ward and his wife, Felicia, of Augusta; two sisters, Tammy Willey and her companion, Steve Adams, of Tenants Harbor, and Jill Ross and her companion, Dicky, of Warren; two grandchildren, James and Travis; many nieces, nephews and extended family; as well as his best friend, Brian Lombard of Sanford.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. at South Parish Cemetery 'The Ridge,' in Martinsville. The Rev. Bill Hickey will officiate.
