A run-down of the varsity basketball playoff picture

The halfway point of the high school basketball season has come and gone for the nine Midcoast schools and the playoff watch is on as some teams hope to climb to a better seeding, while others hope to sneak their way into the playoffs. 

As the season winds down, the Penobscot Bay Pilot is going to provide playoff watch updates to keep readers posted on where the Midcoast area schools stand in the playoff picture. 

Below is the playoff picture using team records and standings that are accurate as of Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. 

BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYOFF PICTURE

Class A Boys North: Camden Hills is in fourth place with a 7-3 record. The top eight teams in the 12 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class A Boys North: Medomak Valley is in fifth place with a 6-4 record. The top eight teams in the 12 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Boys North: Oceanside is in fifth place with a 6-4 record. The top 11 teams in the 16 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Boys North: Belfast is in 11th place with a 5-6 record. The top 11 teams in the 16 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Boys North: Mount View is in 15th place with a 1-9 record. The top 11 teams in the 16 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class C Boys North: Searsport is in 16th place with a 4-6 record. The top 14 teams in the 20 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class D Boys South: North Haven is in 10th place with a 3-6 record. The top eight teams in the 12 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Boys South: Vinalhaven is in 12th place with a 0-12 record. The top eight teams in the 12 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYOFF PICTURE

Class A Girls North: Medomak Valley is in fourth place with an 8-2 record. The top eight teams in the 12 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class A Girls North: Camden Hills is in 10th place with a 1-9 record. The top eight teams in the 12 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Girls North: Oceanside is in eighth place with a 5-6 record. The top 11 teams in the 16 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Girls North: Mount View is in 13th place with a 2-8 record. The top 11 teams in the 16 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class B Girls North: Belfast is in 15th place with a 0-11 record. The top 11 teams in the 16 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class C Girls North: Searsport is in 16th place with a 3-6 record. The top 14 teams in the 20 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class D Girls South: Vinalhaven is in first place with a 10-0 record. The top eight teams in the 11 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class D Girls South: Islesboro is in 10th place with a 1-5 record. The top eight teams in the 11 team division qualify for the playoffs. 

Class D Girls South: North Haven is in 11th place with a 1-7 record. The top eight teams in the 11 team division qualify for the playoffs.
