Rockport celebrates its 125th anniversary with Goose River Bridge Dinner

    Join the Town of Rockport in celebrating its 125th anniversary with a special Goose River Community Bridge Dinner, Sunday, August 7, 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets, at $35 per person, are now on sale for this special community dinner, which will be preceded by a free jazz concert, courtesy of Bay Chamber Concerts, at Rockport Harbor, from 4 to 6 p.m

    The dinner will be catered, and the menu includes:

    Hors d’oeuvres (cheese, artisan bread, crackers, spread, crudités and dip)

    Grilled chicken breast over rainbow slaw and topped with fresh mango salsa

    Summer salad (soft cheese, candied walnuts, apples and dried cranberries)

    Caprese Salad

    Roasted vegetables, rolls and butter

    There will be an array of desserts, compliments of several Rockport restaurants and markets. There will also be a cash bar with wine and beer.

    And, the Push Farther Project, with three Rockport residents playing cello and guitar, will provide music.

    This special dinner is part of the Rockport 125th Summer Celebration, which will run from July 29 to Aug. 7. Festivities begin July 29 with a Firefighter's Ball at the Samoset Resort. This will be a dance for the entire community, featuring the popular rock band Creatures of Habit.     Last February, the town spent three days celebrating its official 125 years as its own municipality, following the separation from Camden in 1891. (See Rockport celebrates its town with heart and soul)

    Later, in the evening of July 30, at 7:30 p.m., Maine Pro Musica will hold a special concert celebrating Rockport at the Rockport Opera House. Maine Pro Musica is a professional orchestra, which brings together musicians living in Maine to perform throughout the state. 

    For Rockport’s 125th Celebration Concert, Music Director, Janna Hymes, programmed a concert with a variety of music for audiences of all ages. The hour -long program will include music from Frozen, 76 Trombones and Sousa’s Stars and Stripes plus familiar and exciting classical pieces. A concert for all ages, this is a must do for summer 2016!

    Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students 18 years and younger.  The box office at the Rockport Opera House will be open the day of the concert at 6 p.m.  Tickets can also be purchased at Leonard’s Clothing Store, 23 Elm Street in Camden starting July 1.

    Proceeds for this concert will go towards Maine Pro Musica’s educational concerts in the fall.

    The week culminates Sunday, Aug. 7, with Cardboard Boat Races for all ages at 11 a.m., a free jazz concert at Marine Park at Rockport Harbor, beginning at 4 p.m., courtesy of Bay Chamber Concerts, and then the Goose River Bridge Community Dinner.

    The bridge overlooking the harbor will be closed to traffic, and tables will be set up for the dinner.
