Rockport artist top designer for Camden contest

Elle Appleton Foster, of Rockport, is the winner of Camden Conservation Commission's logo contest. Elle, who grew up in Camden, bested a field of artists both local and from as far away as Savannah, Georgia, submitting a clean, clever design that reflects the Commission's scope and activities on environmental and conservation issues relating to the Town of Camden.

Elle's logo, said CCC chair Roger Rittmaster, is "original and creative with its bird, trail, and tree design," and will be used in a variety of ways to identify Commission projects. As the contest winner, Elle received a handcrafted birdhouse donated by Once A Tree, a gift certificate to Midcoast Recreation Center, and a year membership to Coastal Mountains Land Trust.

The CCC carries out the guidelines of the Camden Community Forest Management Plan, sponsors educational talks and walks, and focuses on special projects such as improving water quality in Camden Harbor and protecting natural resources and wildlife. On April 19 at 7pm, the Commission will partner with the Camden International Film Festival to show the movie "The Age of Consequences," as part of Earth Day Celebrations. Comprised of seven Camden residents and appointed by the Select Board, the group has been active stenciling storm water drains, designing signage to protect harbor water quality, conserving town land and researching methods to prevent an infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer, among other projects.
