BOOTHBAY HARBOR — The newly formed Pen Bay Sailing League held the second event of its Fall Series last weekend in Boothbay Harbor.

30 High School sailors from the Midcoast took to the water in damp and grey conditions, and completed 10 races on the afternoon. Sailors from the Rockland Community team had the lowest point total, taking the win, and extending their lead for the three part Fall Series.

The League Final will be held Sunday, Oct. 16 on Rockland Harbor and be hosted by the Apprenticeshop. A newly engraved perpetual bowl will be awarded to the series winner at the Rockland event. 

The Pen Bay Sailing League was formed by Midcoast high school sailing coaches in order to help fuel the growth of high school sailing in the area. The league includes the oldest varsity team in the state, Mount Desert Island High School, the newest club team in the state, Oceanside High School, as well as ‘community teams’ such as Rockland and Boothbay.

The Boothbay event was hosted by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club, and marks the expansion of a well established summer institution into the spring and fall in order to serve the year round community. The yacht club’s immaculate fleet of 420 sailboats were a joy to use for the young sailors, and the event was flush with volunteers from the Boothbay sailing community.

The warm hospitality was appreciated by the sailors, coaches, and parents.
