ROCKLAND — Rockland Main Street previewed a double event for June 17 at its volunteer appreciation get together at Eclipse Restaurant in May, when Executive Director Gordon Page recognized the organization's 125 volunteers who donate their time to help make all of Rockland Main Street's events a success in a calendar year.

Saturday, June 17, will see one event at two locations, Page said.

"The Summer Solstice Celebration is just that, the Summer Solstice Celebration," he said. "It is the street party on Main Street and includes the new after hours dock party at Journey's End Marina. We're trying to make sure we don't separate here - it's not two separate events. It's one committee with a subcommittee that focuses on the dock."

Page said that the June 17 Summer Solstice Celebration street party is the traditional family friendly outdoors event, with food vendors, games and activities to mark the official beginning of summer.

"There are four to five live bands on the street from 4 p.m. till 7," he said. "The Dock Party is an overlapping event that actually begins at 6 p.m. at Journey's End Marina."

Page said the Dock Party runs until 10 p.m. It will be the second year for the Dock Party.

"The theory is we have a crowd that will come exclusively for the Street Party and we have a crowd that will come exclusively for the Dock Party," he said. "And then we have that mix of families who will come down and have fun with the kids, take them home to a babysitter, and come back down to Tillson Avenue."

The after hours dock party is for adults only, 21 and over with an ID. Page said they will be very strict on the ID.

He said babies, elementary school kids and teenagers are not allowed.

"You could be 21 and not have an ID and you won't get in," he said. "You could be 47 years old and forgot your ID and you won't get in. We're very focused on that because we've made that promise to our insurance company and the state liquor licensing board."

Page said the U.S. Coast Guard will provide the volunteers to check the IDs. And party goers will be provided a wrist bracelet once they've been checked.

"There's no cover charge with the event," said Page. "It's part of the Summer Solstice Celebration, but there is a cash bar that will be staffed by professional bartenders."

Page said the band Just Teachers will provide the music for the Dock Party.

Both events are free to the public, and are a production of Rockland Main Street Inc.
