Rockland Public Library celebrates “Outside the Lines Week”

Fri, 09/01/2017 - 11:30am

ROCKLAND — The Rockland Public Library is participating in "Outside the Lines: Libraries Re-introduced" during the week of September 10-16. "Outside the Lines" is a week-long celebration demonstrating the creativity and innovation happening in libraries.

During the week, the Library is encouraging people to check out more than just books from the library; they would like them to check out some of the parks and green spaces in Rockland, too.

Participants are invited to come to the library to pick up a #CheckOutRockland Passport and park list and then visit five City Parks where they will search for a hidden stamp to stamp their passport. They're also encouraged to take photos at the parks they visit and share them on Facebook with the hashtag #CheckOutRockland and bring their completed passport to the Library on Saturday, September 16 at 1:00 AM for a small prize and celebration on the Library lawn.

Another special event for the week: on Tuesday, September 12 at 10:30am - Join Miss Katie to celebrate International Dot Day with a storytime and dot decorating inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. For anyone who has been afraid to express themselves - from a child in art class to an adult whose fear has shut down a long-held dream, Peter H. Reynolds' book The Dot is there to remind us all to "Make your mark, and see where it takes you." Dress in polka dots if you have them!

Throughout the week, the Library encourages patrons of all ages to express their creativity through a special dot art project.

Rockland Public Library is located at 80 Union St. in Rockland. This event is free and open to the public. FMI: 594-0310.
