Rockland Police warn public about IRS phone scam

Mon, 02/20/2017 - 12:45pm

ROCKLAND — The Rockland Police Department is alerting the public that residents have notified them about receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service.

According to a news release, the caller was using high-pressure tactics, claiming Rockland Police were involved and even spoofed the department’s phone number on the Caller ID.

Police said this a scam and that most of the calls are coming from outside the United States. They suggest that if you receive a phone call, the easiest thing to do is hang up on the caller.

If anyone has further questions, please call Rockland Police at 594-0316.
