ROCKLAND – A Rockland man was arrested June 23 after police say he kicked open a front door and trashed the inside of a home.

Rockland Police Officers Andrew Redden and Jacob Shirey arrested Michael Thompson, 40, of Rockland, and charged him with domestic violence criminal mischief. Thompson pleaded guilty June 24 in Knox County Unified Court to a charge of domestic violence criminal mischief and was sentenced to 60 days in jail. He must also pay $500 in restitution for the damage he caused to the victim's home, according to court documents.

Court documents further state that Redden and Shirey responded to the incident on Suffolk Street after they received a report of a male who was yelling and screaming outside a house and trying to kick open the front door.

Thompson told police that he did kick in the front door, trashed the inside of the home and also broke through a bedroom door after an argument with the victim.

Thompson admitted to police that he destroyed the inside of the house but did not physically assault the woman, according to court documents.
