Rockland man accused of breaking woman’s finger during argument

    ROCKLAND — Rockland Police arrested Abernathy B. Miller, 48, of Rockland, and charged him with domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and obstructing the report of a crime.

    He was arrested June 19 after he allegedly broke a woman’s finger during an argument.

    Miller made his initial court appearance before Judge Susan Sparaco in Knox County Unified Court June 20. His bail was set at $5,000 cash.

    According to the police report filed by Sgt. Anthony Camporiale, the victim told Miller to leave her apartment at the Thorndike building because he had been drinking the past few days and “it was getting ugly.”

    Miller refused to leave and the victim went into the bedroom to call police when he allegedly grabbed the phone from her. The victim told police that they began struggling and he held her down on the floor. When she began to scream, her told her he would kill her. Miller then allegedly grabbed her left pinkie finger and bent it, breaking the tip of the victim’s finger joint, according to the court documents.

    Officer Jacob Shirey apprehended Miller at the Brunswick Rooms after he left the victim’s apartment. Miller told police that “nothing had happened.”

    According to the police affidavit, Camporiale noted that the victim was scared and appeared like she was assaulted. The victim also had bloody gouges on her arm and left breast.

    The victim was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment of her injuries, according to the police report.

    Miller will appear in court again on Aug. 25 for a dispositional conference.
