ROCKLAND — The Penobscot Bay YMCA has received of donation of $100,000 from the Worthington Foundation for the Rockland Harbor YMCA, a branch of the Penobscot Bay YMCA.

David Worthington said: "The Worthington Foundation is committed to serving the health and education of the youth and young adults in Rockland and the wider Knox County. This support is directed primarily toward a scholarship program and the many mentoring organizations, which in turn require the active participation from those they mentor. We are, of course, happy to participate in the development of the new community-conscious Y in southern Knox County.”

As the Y continues to fundraise, so continues construction. The staff are finalizing program plans and equipment is arriving daily. The new branch is scheduled to open in December.

The new fitness equipment includes a full line of cardiovascular equipment such as treadmills, elliptical machines, upright and recumbent bikes, rowers, and flexstriders, as well as a line of selectorized equipment and free weights.

Members will have a variety of options to find just the right wellness program that fits them. The Y will offer basic coaching on all the new equipment and set members up on a complete program.

For those looking for additional motivation, personal training will be available at the facility which will offer individualized training to meet specific goals.

Members will also have a full selection of group classes and group personal training to take advantage of at the new facility. There will be a variety of options such as Hot Lunch, SWEAT, and Circuit Training along with other classes that will allow members to get a great workout and meet new friends.

In addition, there will be a free Healthy Seniors class for anyone in the community to participate in. This is a great opportunity for seniors to come socialize and get a great workout at the same time. Healthy Seniors focuses on flexibility and muscular strength two times a week to improve overall quality of life.
