UNION – Roberta M. Sedgwick, 81, died peacefully on Nov. 29, 2016, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Thomaston on April 22, 1935, Roberta was the daughter of Kenneth and Sylvia Taylor Olsen. Moving with her family at a young age to St. George, Roberta graduated from high school there.

Following graduation, she married her soulmate and best friend, Thaxter Sedgwick, on Sept. 10, 1959. While Thaxter was deployed to Germany, Roberta remained home, later joining him at his next station in Massachusetts. Here they welcomed their first daughter, Debi.

In the mid 1960s, the family followed Thaxter's career to Kansas, where they were blessed with the birth of their second daughter, Tammy. In 1973 they purchased their home in Union. Together they made their life there until Thaxter's passing in 2013.

A devoted wife and mother, Roberta loved her family more than anything. She kept busy tending the many beautiful flower gardens surrounding her home. She was a very talented crafter, and loved putting together large jig-saw puzzles. She often glued the puzzles together to display or give as gifts.

One of Roberta's favorite pastimes was her annual trip to the Cozy Cove Cabins in Jackman with her sister and daughters. Even with her failing health, Roberta was looking forward to a trip this spring.

Roberta had a special place in her heart for all animals, especially her 'fur baby,' her dog, Kasey.

Predeceased by her husband in 2013; and a brother, Ronald Olsen; Roberta is survived by her daughters, Debi Sedgwick and Tammy Moshier, both of Warren; five grandchildren, Patrick Dare and his companion, Brittany Lailer, Danielle Moshier and Anne Marie Sedgwick; her great-grandchildren, Bailee, Ryker and Hazel Dare; two nieces, whom Roberta thought of as grandchildren, Amber Thibodeau and Tonya Thibodeau; her siblings, Clifton “Frank” Olsen and his wife, Joyce, of Warren, Irene Thibodeau and her husband, Theron, of Friendship, Beverly Tyler and her husband, Glidden, of Wiscasset, and Linwood Olsen and his wife, Brenda, of Friendship; a sister-in-law, Irene Olsen of Brunswick; as well as many niece and nephews.

A graveside celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. box 10310, Portland, ME 04104.
